abstract

objective primary central nervous system lymphoma (pcnsl) is an extremely rare condition in childhood. we report the first case of pcnsl in a child in iran. clinical presentation a nine-year-old boy was referred to mofid hospital with the history of headache of four months and seizure of 2 months duration. magnetic resonance imaging of the brain revealed a hyper-intense lesion in left fronto-parietal area with secondary satellite lesions. biopsy of the brain mass was performed. pathologic findings showed brain lymphoma and immunohistochemistry confirmed this diagnosis. the treatment started with intrathecal and systemic chemotherapy in combination with radiotherapy.

Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma

Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is an aggressive non‐Hodgkin Lymphoma, most frequently diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma in immunocompetent patients, which is confined to the central nervous system.[1] In the past two decades, its incidence has been steadily increasing. However, differential diagnosis, such as demyelinating disease, could be a challenge particularly in patients with...

Primary lymphoma of the central nervous system (CNS), including reticulum cell sarcoma, microglioma, and histiocytic lymphoma, represents less than 1% of all primary brain tumors. In the last 10 years, this tumor has tripled in frequency in the nonimmunosuppressed population. By 1991, the tumor will be the most common neurological neoplasm by virtue of the increase in sporadic occurrence and in...

Primary central nervous system lymphoma.

Primary central nervous system (CNS) lymphoma is an unusual but increasingly frequent brain tumor being identified by neurologists. Considerable improvements in survival have been accomplished by the addition of chemotherapy to cranial radiotherapy. In addition, many patients achieve substantial disease free survival with chemotherapy alone, and survival is superior to radiotherapy alone. Curre...

Primary central nervous system lymphoma.

Primary CNS lymphomas (PCNSL) represent a subgroup of malignancies with specific characteristics, aggressive course, and unsatisfactory outcome in contrast with other lymphomas comparable for tumour burden and/or histological type. Despite a high chemo- and radiosensitivity, remissions are frequently shortlasting, mainly because the blood brain-barrier limits the access of many drugs to the CNS...

Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is an uncommon extranodal non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Its incidence has increased during the last 3 decades and has been reported in both immunocompromised and immunocompetent patients. Immunocompromised patients are affected at a younger age compared with immunocompetent patients. It presents with raised intracranial pressure and focal neurologic and n...

Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma

Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is characterized by extranodal malignant lymphomas arising in the brain, spinal cord, CSF, and eyes in the absence of lymphoma outside the nervous system at the time of diagnosis (Deckert & Paulus, 2007). By definition, this excludes CNS involvement of systemic lymphomas and angiotropic lymphomas (Schlegel et al., 2000). The incidence of PCNSL in ...
